Description of Session
WHO and PATH along with colleagues from University of Cape Town and the Botnar Foundation will share the results of a recent effort to define data governance priorities and practices for the global health community, to inform its quest to achieve universal health coverage for all people. We will use this dialogue to seek feedback from the community and jumpstart a dialogue on the need for guidance and principles in data governance. A panel of PATH, WHO, academia, and Botnar Foundation representatives will discuss their perspectives on the components of data governance, with special emphasis on data privacy and security, and data equity – why they are important to health system function and to meeting health outcomes, and what data governance means for global health. Special focus will be given to the countries highlighted as case studies in data governance in the WHO/PATH paper.
