Lessons from the Global Fund Portfolio: Building capacity for scale in public health systems through real-time data use

Session Information

One of the greatest challenges to scaling digital health solutions in LMIC countries is in human resource capacity-building for local community and district health authorities. Human resource shortages, high rates of staff turnover and difficulties in accessing training all impede the consistent capture, analysis and use of mHealth for data driven decision-making. World Vision together with Global Fund has been scaling digital health solutions in Angola, Malawi and Papau New Guinea, learning together how to overcome these tough challenges in hard to reach settings and rural communities. Methods utilized include strengthening the management of health commodity supply chains, referral systems and use of epidemiological data, as a few examples. In this panel session, we focus on three World Vision/Global Fund programmes in that have been working closely with the respective Ministries of Health to strengthen leadership in district and provincial health management teams, as well as adaptations and tailoring of the technology in order to better utilise the resulting data and improve management and accountability. The panelists will discuss the collaboration and engagement of the MoH as well as summarize both the challenges and successes within specific context.
