Description of Session
Regional and peer-learning networks provide a platform to bring together leaders and practitioners in the digital health space. Focused on knowledge sharing and capacity building, these networks are often a source of inspiration and support for country-level stakeholders in the sector. Networks have the potential to advance capacity building, sustainability, and advocacy for digital transformation, contributing to the long-term success of digitalization of health systems. The digital health sector is host to a variety of networks—including the Asia eHealth Information Network, the African Alliance of Digital Health Networks, Joint Learning Network for Universal Health Coverage, the Health Data Collaborative, and the Global Digital Health Network—each with a unique perspective on how networks contribute to the success of digital health. These networks often have complementary activities and goals, serving a specific subset of digital health professionals. Despite their potential, reservations about the efficacy and importance of these networks linger. Questions of funding and impact continue to dampen enthusiasm for their work and can complicate a network’s longevity and resourcing strategies. This session is designed to open the conversation around the value of regional and peer-learning networks, both highlighting their work and addressing reservations. Representatives from the leading digital health networks will present accomplishments and challenges in order to clarify the role networks can play. Presenters will also share best practices that can be applied by other networks and communities in the digital health space. Finally, the panel will address common reservations and concerns about networks including funding, sustainability, and impact.
